Introduction to the Dolomites
Group tour past hotels and mountain huts
You will not find more beautiful mountains than the Dolomites in Europe. That is why we have been offering a Dolomites Highlight walking tour for years, with challenging tours along a number of highlights in the Dolomites. Walking days of 7-8 hours are not for everyone, so with this walking trip we respond to the demand for a trip that is accessible to (almost) everyone. And now there is a walking tour "Getting to know the Dolomites". 6 days of (mountain) hiking in search of the most beautiful places in the Dolomites. Real mountain walking, but in a relaxed way. With a central highlight every day and walking days with a maximum of 4 hours of walking. Including breaks, we will be on the road for about 6 hours. Or longer if we feel like lingering on the views a little longer.

Your guide is...
The tour leader and guide for this walking trip is Dick van der Reijden. As a South Tyrolean Wanderleiter, he knows the Dolomites like no other. Together with the Highlights of the Dolomites, this tour is definitely my favorite. Historical locations from WWI, beautiful mountain lakes and fantastic views of the most beautiful mountains 'in the world'.

Description of the journey
The first three days we make day trips from our hotel in Brixen (Bressanone). We start our journey in the Villnöstal where we view the church of St. Johann and walk our first mountain tour along the famous Geislerspitzen. On the second day we go up to the Seiser Alm, the highest alm in Europe. Then we drive towards Alta Badia where we make a real mountain tour to the mountain hut "Ütia Gardenacia", where we will also spend the night. You can only reach this mountain hut on foot, so the next day we have to walk back to the car for a few hours. We then drive deeper into the Dolomites, taking a trip to the Lagazuoi to view the barracks and positions from the First World War. There are now two more highlights on the programme. First of all we take a beautiful tour around the Drei Zinnen, the symbol of the Dolomites. And we end the week with a walk around the Pragser Wildsee.
All in all, six days of walking with a highlight every day. A unique hiking trip that introduces you to the beautiful Dolomites in six days. As mentioned, we walk about 4 hours a day with a maximum elevation gain of 600 meters. That also gives you the space to really enjoy the days. With breaks at beautiful alpine huts or in a more deserted place where we have time to enjoy the beautiful views. Along the way we tell you about flora, fauna, geology and the culture of South Tyrol and the Dolomites. But we also spend a lot of time on the theory and practice of walking in the mountains. How do you walk up and down as efficiently as possible? How do you optimally use your walking sticks? And how do you deal with emergencies?
From day to day
Day 1 - Brixen (Bressanone)
We meet in a beautiful 4-star hotel down in the Eisacktal. Participants who arrive on time can take a walk or visit the town of Brixen/Bressanone. At dinner we get to know each other and discuss what we are going to do in the coming days. We will stay in this hotel for the next 3 nights.
Day 2 - Villnöss and Geislerspitzen
In the morning we drive into the Villnößtal. It is one of the quieter valleys of the Dolomites. Before we really hit the road, we visit St. Magdalena with our first Insta moment: the St. Johannkirche and the Geissler in the background. We then drive 10 minutes to the Zanseralm where we park. And then take a beautiful mountain tour on the Adolf-Munkelsteig, which runs along the imposing Geislerspitzen. A beautiful tour to complete with plenty of breaks at the beautiful alpine pastures for which the Villnößtal is known.
Day 3 - Seiser Alm
Today is all about the spring flowers in the Dolomites. From our hotel we drive to the town of Seis am Schlern where we take the cable car up to the Seiser Alm. We follow the Hans und Paula Stegerweg and wander around the Seiser Alm. We walk via the Laranzer Alm to our lunch spot, the Tirler Hütte. Voted the most beautiful alpine hut in the Alps and Dolomites in 2013. After lunch we walk to the hamlet of Ritsch where we take the bus back to our starting point.
Day 4 - nature park Puez Geisler and the Ütia Gardenacia
Today a real mountain tour with an overnight stay in a mountain hut. We leave Brixen and drive to Corvara in Alta Badia, the most important valley where traditional Ladin is still spoken. After we have parked the car and climbed the first part with the cable car, we walk straight through the Puez Geisler massif to the Puezhütte. After lunch we continue into the massif and walk across the Gardenacia plateau to the Ütia Gardenacia where we spend the night. In our backpack we only need to take toiletries and some clean clothes. Bed linen and towels are provided in the cabin.
Day 5 - WW I position on the Lagazuoi
Today is all about the First World War. But first we have to walk back to our car from the Ütia Gardenacia. A spectacular trip of about 2 hours. On narrow mountain paths surrounded by peaks and rock walls of the Puez. We then drive by car to the Passo Falzarego. Once there, we take the cable car up the Lagazuoi. And after lunch we view the barracks and tunnels of the Lagazuoi. After this tour we walk back to the car and drive to our hotel where we will stay for another 2 days.
Day 6 - Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo)
The Three Zinnen are the emblem of the Dolomites. We drive via Lake Misurina to the Auronzohütte. A toll road and a huge parking lot, because the Three Zinnen are in every travel guide about the Dolomites. So we may walk among many people for the first half hour, but the good news is that most tourists stop as soon as they see the Drei Zinnen. And we keep walking! First to the Drei-Zinnen-Hütte where we enjoy the view of the iconic Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo). After a cup of coffee we walk to the Langalm for lunch and then complete the circuit around the Drei Zinnen and arrive back at the Autonzohütte.
Day 7 - Pragser Wildsee
The last day again. But with a beautiful bouncer! We drive from Toblach to the Pragser Wildsee as early as possible. Not only famous because it is so beautifully situated, but nowadays also because Terrence Hill recorded a (not so good) series there: Un passo dal cielo. We walk around the lake for about an hour and end at the Grand Hotel Pragser Wildsee. Where we may visit the souvenir shop and drink coffee together before everyone heads back home.
Difficulty level
This walking tour has a difficulty level from easy to medium. In concrete terms, this means that you must be able to hike for up to 4 hours with a maximum elevation gain of 600 meters. Please note: this is the so-called 'clean Gehzeit', so without breaks. A reasonable level of fitness is sufficient for this walking tour. A detailed description of the difficulty levels can be found on our website. Every now and then we walk on narrow mountain paths. It is normal that you find this exciting. But you should not suffer from fear of heights.
Accomodations
We sleep in simple hotels and once in a mountain hut. We sleep in double rooms in the hotels and the mountain hut. If you prefer to sleep in a single room, please let us know. We can then inquire what the additional costs will be. Although we encounter a hut every day along the way, we take a (small) packed lunch with us on most days. Furthermore, it is always wise to take a few bars with you.

Material
We are hiking in the mountains and that places quite a few demands on the equipment you need. Good walking shoes (AB shoes), a good backpack that sits comfortably on your back and good rain gear are essential. We have placed a complete packing list for these types of hut tours on our website. We will send you additional information including a packing list well before the start of your trip. It is possible to rent certain materials such as backpack, walking sticks and headlamp from us. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.
Insurance
Of course, something can always happen that ultimately makes it impossible to come along. And then you want to be able to cancel the walking trip. You can read about the consequences of this in our travel conditions. We recommend that you take out additional cancellation insurance. In addition, something can also happen during the trip. And especially in the mountains, (medical) help can be quite expensive. For this reason, we make it mandatory that you take out travel insurance that also covers mountain sports. This is possible, for example, at the NKBV, which offers very good price/quality. The NKBV also offers cancellation insurance.
